This is your one-stop shopping for all things Science!  Forgot what to do?  Check here!

Mar. 21-24:  Review information on plants; quiz no later than Thursday on parts of a flower and basic plant vocabulary.  Students were given the study materials before spring break.  We will then begin notes on animals and ecosystems.

Mar. 6-10:  Lab/review/test Monday on human body unit.  We will do a quick review of third and fourth grade plant standards this week, with a quiz on the parts of a flower and basic plant vocabulary by the end of the week.

Feb. 27-Mar. 3:  Quiz Wednesday.  Review on Monday and Tuesday.  Test on this unit will be next Monday, March 6.  Skeleton projects will be assigned Monday and due March 10.  Students must assemble the skeleton correctly, label the bones, and create a scene for the skeleton.  A short one page creative story must accompany the project and be attached in the lower right hand corner.  Reminder that science projects are due Friday.

Feb. 20-24:  Continue our work on the human body unit.

Feb. 13-17:  We will continue notes this week.  Once we finish notes, we will complete interactive notebook pages.  Please remember that if your student misses notes days, they need to get them from this website to keep up and have proper study material.

Feb. 6-10:  Test on Force/Motion on Monday.  We will begin notes on Tuesday for our unit on the human body.  Notes continue Friday.

Jan. 30-Feb. 3:  We will complete one interactive notebook page on force and motion, complete two labs to illustrate the concept, and do digital lessons.  Quiz by Friday and test no later than next Monday.

Jan. 23-27:  Monday and Tuesday we will review our knowledge of circuits with a lab and practice activities.  Quiz Tuesday and test Thursday.  Friday we will begin taking notes on Force and Motion.

Jan. 17-20:  Complete review activities on energy on Tuesday and test Thursday.  We will take notes on circuits on Friday and test that unit next week on Thursday.

Jan. 9-13:  Work on interactive notebook study pages on energy.  Quiz Thursday on recognizing types of energy.

Jan. 4-6:  Take notes on energy (see slides at left as needed).

Dec. 12-16:  Monday we will review for our unit test on matter on Tuesday.  After break, we will work on electricity and circuits.  No science Thursday/Friday due to specials.

Nov. 14-18:  Continue discussion/investigation of matter.  Lab late in the week.  Quiz Monday on types and states of matter and how matter changes state.

Oct. 31-Nov. 4:  We will begin our unit on matter with notes most of this week when we are not at specials or on our field trip.

Oct. 24-28:  We will finish our unit on weather/climate/water cycle this week and test on Friday.  We will take a quiz on climate on Tuesday.  I have placed numerous digital lessons, videos, and practices quizzes and tests on the Savvas app.  These are intended to be study aids for the test.  Use them!  Next week we will start on matter.

Oct. 17-21:  We will finish our articles on climate and climate zones.  We will review and take a quiz on Thursday.  We will go to the science lab on Friday to perform an experiment on disappearing ghosts (scientific method review).

Oct. 10-14:  Monday students will read articles about the water cycle.  No science Tuesday/Wednesday for specials.  Articles will continue Thursday/Friday on weather phenomena.

Oct. 3-7:  Specials Monday/Tuesday.  We will complete interactive notebook pages on Wednesday and begin reading articles about weather on Thursday.  No school Friday.

Sept. 26-30:  Specials Monday/Tuesday.  However, we will take our test on our space unit on Monday.  Planet reports due Friday.  On Wednesday, we will begin notes on the water cycle and weather.  I anticipate taking notes the rest of the week.  This is often one of the harder units we do in science.  Take some time to watch the weather report on the news with your child.  We will also take a quiz on moon phases (4th grade standard) on Thursday.

Sept. 19-23:  Specials Monday/Tuesday.  Planet projects due Sept. 30.  We will take a quiz this week, complete book and digital lesson work, and test either Friday or Monday.  As soon as we finish this unit, we will take about one day to review moon phases, and take a quiz.  Moon phases are a testable 4th grade standard.  We completed a moon phase cup on Friday last week and they have already read an article detailing moon phases.

Sept. 12-16:  Specials Monday/Tuesday.  Wednesday through Friday we will focus on articles pertaining to space topics, utilizing critical vocabulary and concepts.  I am planning a lab for Friday.  Test coming probably end of next week.  Immediately after, we will do a short review of moon phases (4th grade standard) with a quiz.

Sept. 5-9:  Music on Tuesday.  We will continue notes on Wednesday and begin interactive notebook study pages immediately after.  Depending on how far we get, we will start space articles on Friday.  Reminder that anyone who has been absent and missed notes needs to use the slides at left to get caught up.

Aug. 29-Sept. 2:  Review Monday for test Tuesday in science on the nature of science.  On Wednesday we will begin taking notes on space.  We will take notes at the beginning of each unit, interact with and quiz on the material thereafter, and then test.  PowerPoint slides for the entire year that I will be teaching from are already posted at left.  Students may download these to review whenever needed.  Notes generally take three to four days to complete, depending on the unit (some are longer than others).

Aug. 22-26:  We will learn about different tools that scientists use to conduct their experiments.  Students are expected to be able to identify the tools and know what they measure and how they are used properly.  We will go to the lab to work on this.  We will take probably two quizzes this week and will test early next week.  I'm hopeful that we test this unit early next week.

Aug. 15-19:  We will continue to learn about the steps of the scientific method and discuss lab safety.  Students will learn about major scientific tools, and how to use them properly.  Next week we will visit the science lab for the first time this year to interact with these tools.  Quiz probable next week.

Aug. 10-12:  Science will be very different from what your child has experienced in the past.  Science is a testable subject in 5th grade, and the state test will cover 3rd-5th grade standards.  Many are not used to the rigor of their science material, and it is not unusual for grades to drop in the first quarter from what you are used to seeing.  Regular study sessions at home are necessary!  This week we will learn about lab safety and what exactly science is.  Why is it important?  What are the characteristics of good scientific practice?

Notes for the entire year are posted to the left.  Any time your student is out for a class session for any reason, they can make up their missed notes.  They can also use these to help with study sessions.
